仲夏夜之夢的趣味性在於架構上存於兩位男主角人物愛上同一個女子的情感糾紛,纖細姣弱的情感,卻因為一個迷糊的小錯誤變得更糾葛不清。
I think the most interesting part of the play is the complicated love process of those 3 leading roles. The original affection should be simple, straight, but fragile. So, after Puck played the trick on them, the whole situation became worse and worse.

精靈帕克(Puck)的陰錯陽差導致事件變得越來越紛擾,兩位男主角第米屈律斯(Demetrius)和萊散特(Lysander)因為愛情花露瘋狂的戀上海冷娜(Helena),原被熱戀追求而苦惱的黑美娜(Hermia)反成為最被嫌惡的女子;仙王Oberon為了孩子的事與仙后Titania鬧不愉快,用計將愛情花露滴在仙后眼眸,而醒來後的仙后愛上被帕克嘻鬧變成驢子的平民,混亂中仙王發現雅典愛情男女的失誤,幾經安排後,仙王仙后得以平靜,而兩對情人也獲得所愛,與公爵Theseus及Hippolyta一同成就三方的終身大事。
In one hand, the two male roles Demetrius and Lysander crazily fell in love with Helena because of the flower juice "love-in-idleness", and satirically, Hermia, who was worried about being courted, became one that everybody hates. On the other hand, Oberon had quarrels with Titania over a child, so he played the same juice prank on Titania and made her fall in love with a donkey-headed civilian Bottom. In this chaos, Oberon found the mistake on those Athens people, so he made some arrangement and led every couple to happy endings.

整場故事的主要場景安排在雅典的宮廷、郊外的森林,也包含了袞斯(Quince)的家中,其中森林的演出場景佔全部的3/4,算是較主要的表演空間,故在設計的方向而言必須以(夜晚的)森林、月色,作為主要思量,而森林的感覺是神祕卻又靜謐的,引領著曠男怨女進入森林私奔、尋情;除此之外,愛情的世界充斥著這齣戲劇的主要思維,而趣味的戲劇性變化是在故事發展中的另一大特色,活潑的、恣意的、自在悠閒,如同仙界般的歡愉也必將呈現在這樣的舞台上。
The main settings of this play are at the court of Athens, at forest in the suburbs, and at the house of Quince. The forest scene accounts for three-fourth of the whole play, so it should be the main performing area. Therefore, I think it's better to focus on the scenery of forest (at night) and of moonlight. Also, we need to show the mysterious and tranquil atmosphere of forest and try to lead the audience to free their mind and get love imagination. Besides, though love plays the main role in the play, the dramatic changes of the plot also attracts and pleases the audience very much. So I think we still need to put "vividness, arbitrariness, comfort and leisure" into the scene design.

戲中戲同時出現在文本中安排,試圖引出在情愛感官之於,平民百姓對於「戲」的努力及用心;除此之外,跳脫主結構的情感世界,在這群社會地位低下的平民世界中,相較之下除了迷糊之外,更包含了一顆樸拙及誠懇的心,相信不只是為了那六便士,更多是為了歡愉、慶祝的喜悅感。
但再重新思考這群平民所演出的「關於年輕的匹拉麥斯及其愛人雪絲佩的冗長的短劇,非常悲哀的趣劇(”A tedious brief scene of young Pyramus And his love Thisbe; very tragical mirth.”)」時卻發覺其中有情的男女因”眼見為憑”的「誤會」造成了天人永隔、無以挽回的結果,著眼於凡人對於愛的「癡」心,而現實森林中兩對情侶的愛情在神仙精靈如同「惡作劇」的考驗之下,卻能「真」心的執著以對;倘若戲中戲的男女也是受到精靈的考驗,相互比擬之下所追尋真愛的方式,或許又是在莎士比亞的筆下所要表達的追求情感的形式吧!
William Shakespeare arranged a play within this play, trying to take people out of the love world of the main plot; instead, he tried to show us that though the civilians with low social status are not clever, they do have a simple and sincere heart. I believe their planning to demonstrate a play was not for money, but for the great happiness of wedding celebration.

精靈帕克在劇中扮演著極其重要的角色,如同說書人般的精靈帕克在森林場景中不斷竄出,隨著劇情引導觀眾進入故事的發生及解決,到最後的圓滿結果。他是一個聰明伶俐、善解人意卻會偶爾調皮壞心,甚是小迷糊的精靈,但在這之餘不禁也得說起仙王的指示太粗淺,才會造成這樣大的紛亂,或許仙后的事也讓他難以平心吧!
The elf Puck acts as a very important role in the play. He seems to be a storyteller, showing up to and fro at forest scenes, leading the audience to follow the plot, changes, and the happy ending. He is smart and considerate, but sometimes he plays tricks too. Perhaps he also feels really sorry for Titania's incident because Oberon didn't command clearly enough.

夏天的夜晚有別於其他季節,有著耀眼的星空,皎潔的明月,季節性的枝芽恣意生長,繁盛的架起這甜美卻也苦惱的森林,夜晚的蟲鳴蛙叫,既熱鬧喧囂,卻又擾人心意。
Unlike other seasons, summer-night is always attractive. The starry heaven and moon, the growing plants, the chirp of insects, all these absolutely indicate how prosperous and exciting a summer-night is.
場景一:雅典-提修斯宮中(Athens. The palace of THESEUS)
平穩對稱的舞台設計場景中,企圖展現雅典法治下之莊嚴崇高的地位,舞台外圈向內包圍,展現雅典民族的一心及向心力。
這場中講述的是Egeus怒帶女兒Hermia、未婚夫 Demetrius及女兒愛人Lysander前來控訴,希望藉由規章制度迫使女兒Hermia與未婚夫成親;制度之下未依父權則難免一死,抑或與男人永遠隔絕,成為修女。
雅典制度之下難以抗命,Lysander向Hermia提及雅典20哩郊外有伯母可靠,約定與參加五月節相同的地點碰面,將可逃離雅典法律的制裁,組成家庭;Helena得知Lysander與Hermia即將私奔的消息,抱著能受到Demetrius任何的一點酬謝,決定告密。
場景二:雅典-郊外的森林(A Wood near Athens.)
在主舞台(中央內環)不做改變的情況下,外環由原本的對稱至中輾轉成為郊外的山坡小境,簡單的旋轉,正向、逆向、逆時針45度,多立克式的柱子變成另一種"樹"的造型,不對襯、錯綜之間這座森林變成了一座愛情迷宮。
時間近晚,相約的戀人來到森林中,但另一批人馬亦悄悄進入,夜裡仙王與仙后鬧得不合,仙王要Puck尋找汁液,旦在這過程中陰錯陽差的誤將汁液滴在雅典人眼睛,顛倒是非。
這是進入北藝大的第一個舞台設計作品
雖然只是紙上作業
但在不考慮現實層面的問題下
創作設計便的自在許多
或許只是簡單的場景
但配合這樣的故事情節
或許也是饒富趣味的:)
